Workplace exam vs. equipment inspection

The work area and the machine answer different safety questions.

Different subjects

A working-place exam addresses the conditions where people work. An equipment walk-around addresses the condition of an individual machine. Record the site and location for the exam and the unit ID and hour meter for the equipment inspection.

Different follow-through

An unsafe machine may be held out of service while a pit hazard affects everyone entering an area. Keep each corrective action associated with its source record so a reviewer can see when the hazard was found and resolved.

In practice

A poor berm belongs on the haul-road exam; a leaking hydraulic hose belongs on that truck's inspection.
