Site-specific hazard awareness

Explain the hazards a visitor or miner may encounter at the particular site.

Make it location-specific

Hazard awareness should cover conditions at the mine being visited, such as traffic flow, restricted areas, stockpiles and emergency contacts. A generic company orientation misses local changes in pit layout or equipment movement.

Know who needs a record

Part 46 distinguishes miners from certain visitors for recordkeeping. Even where an individual training record is not required for a non-miner visitor, the operator must be able to show evidence that hazard awareness was provided.

In practice

A vendor entering two sites on the same day needs each site's traffic route and restricted-area briefing.
