New task training for mining equipment

Train before an unfamiliar task and keep a record tied to the equipment or assignment.

Define the task, not just a job title

Part 46 new task training applies when a miner is assigned a new task in which the miner has no previous work experience. Identify the equipment or task, the health and safety aspects, instructor and completion time. Supervised practice and evaluation belong in the underlying evidence where used.

Check changes in work

A new attachment, process or responsibility can change the hazards even if the employee already operates similar equipment. Review the actual assignment and training plan before treating prior qualification as sufficient.

In practice

A dozer operator moving to haul trucks gets a truck-specific task record before taking an independent haul assignment.
